The security staff can be seen monitoring the halls of the districts schools during the day, standing guard at sporting events, concerts, and musicals in the evening, or assisting elderly and disabled students and residents whenever needed. The security staff also helps prevent truancy and gives students an avenue to divulge incidents of bullying, drug use and other illegal activities. The Highlands security staff also works hand in hand with the four municipal police departments to stay on top of whats going on in the community.

In emergency situations the staff helps search for missing students or community children and assists with FEMA, PEMA, and the American Red Cross if the need arises.
